Foreigners (non Texans) need not apply.

Please if you can so kindly type what city you are in.

Im from Houston (northside, and Heights) but lived in San Anotnio for a couple years. Yet, i pretty much know all of Texas from Weslaco, Fort Hancock, Tioga, Amarillo, back down to Bridge City, and all of the big cities.

Seriously, lots of people who hate on Texas just from reading other biased people's reasoning. Sure there are some fuck ups from time to time [people, legislature, etc] but what place doesn't have that!?

I found this hilarious post that references Gawker's noted hate of Texas.

Your headline and first line are why I try to disassociate myself from Texas.

Nothing against you or other texans, but while I'm all for state pride Texas takes it to a somewhat ridiculous, arrogant level.

I grew up in Houston, it was okay if you ignore the weather, the traffic, the cost, the smell, the immensity, the people...

I live in Kansas now, and have for basically 6 years. So far I've found it generally more pleasant than Texas ever was.

I still go back a few times a year, I don't out right hate it or anything, but I'm glad to call Kansas my home now

We've also got the MD Anderson Cancer Center. There's also great car culture down here. I don't know what the other cities in Texas get in terms of large and popular auto events other than an auto show and Austin's F1 racing, but I know Houston hosts the Lamborghini Festival and Ferrari Festival, as well as TX2K. So that's another plus for being in Texas if you live in or close to Houston.

Unfortunately, most Texans get caught up in the stereotype/hype that they are better than others. Got news for you f—-heads. You ain't no fricking different that the rest of the US.

You are a lot like most people who start reading Jalopnik on a regular basis. In no time, they are convinced that the only real car on the planet is a compact, diesel, manual, wagon. Why? Because it was told to them. Same thing.

How come you never tell how you got beat up so bad by the Mexicans? Hmmm... that would not fit the stereotype, would it. Humility is not so bad. Try it.

Sugar Land here. Born in Port Arthur (family is all originally from Orange and Bridge City), raised primarily in Beaumont, HS in Austin, finished college at good ole UH.

I've seen a few people talk about how Texans are way too proud of their home state several times. I understand how people think that we might be a bit on the loony side with it, too. However, the first sentence of your post (Foreigners need not apply) is something we obviously say in jest. This state was born with a strong sense of pride. People came here after being invited by the Mexican government to help build the province, they fought Santa Ana when he revoked the Constitution of 1824, and paid for their land with the blood of the Texas Army.

My family moved to this state in 1826 and fought in the Texas Revolution (Battles: Grass Fight and the Alamo). My great x5 grandfather has a historical marker next to his grave in Georgetown due to his service in the Texas Army and his positions in the Republic's government. My ancestors have helped better this state for 187 years as judges, JPs, lawmen, local government officials, and businessmen. So if I seem overly proud of Texas and take offense when someone besmirches an area that my entire family has spent almost two centuries selflessly building into a better place... Well then, my apologies.

Out of curiosity, what part of Houston? You're probably the 3rd person I've heard say that, but other than areas near refinery row near Texas City, or occasional sewage backups, I've never experienced it smelling bad. That said I grew up on the north end of town, and now live out near katy, so maybe that has something to do with it. Have to agree on the humidity though, that shit sucks!

There are tons of meet ups, clubs and festivals in the DFW area for enthusiasts of every car brand and type. Texans seem to have a huge following on some of these Gawker sites, which probably is why so many non Texans are combative with everything Texas. Plus Hardibro from Jalopnik and Leslie from Gizmodo are from Texas.

Austin here too. I read your post earlier, and have a pretty similar outlook. I am a little harder on Houston, but I am from there, then went to Dallas, Los Angeles, then Orange County, CA, and finally back to Austin and liked all of them better. Probably just because I am from the outskirts of Houston (Cypress).

Austin's weather could be better, hell I would actually pay for rain at this point, and the traffic is disgraceful, but it is a beautiful place to live.

dude that's badass. its all good sir, always great hearing Texas history. My family if traced back as far enough as remembered were from the Corpus Christi area at time of Tejas-Coahuila. During the revolution and Spanish American war, my family (fathers side) were set as Texans as the lines were moved then soon after moving back into northern and central Mexico. If you've ever been to Kingsville, General Cavazos is actually my grandpa's cousin, not sure what he is to me lol. Cool stuff dude, see ya at F1 next month \m/

Texas is a large state, so if each state had a 1% douche quota, we would have more than most just by the math. Add that to the the "don't mess with Texas", "we could secede", Texas could be split into up to 5 states", "we were once our own country", yahoos, and we end up with more than our share. Having said that, Texas has an aura that most, if not all, other states lack. I blame John Wayne.
